No liquids or gels are allowed in carry-on baggage (modified). This includes beverages, shampoo, toothpaste, lotions, sunscreen, or creams. Put them into checked luggage, consumed or discarded (exceptions: infant formula, breast milk or juice for infants aboard; prescription drugs and insulin with proper identification).
The US government recommends that passengers pack light to speed up the process of going through security. Long delays are being reported. Carry-on bags are being checked at the gate.
Fees, Fees, Fees: High fuel prices mean airlines are tacking on extra fees: curbside check-in fee, oversized bag fee, phone booking fee, traveling with pets charge, carrying a second bag fee. Now, there's even a $15 fee for the first checked bag making its way around the industry.
WARNING: The tragic events of September 11th forced many changes, including more security precautions, baggage limitations, especially carry-on bags, fewer flights, missed flight nonrefundable ticket cancellations (instead of reschedulings), higher taxes and unfortunately airline bankruptcies.
Other notable changes include surcharges and fees to cover security upgrades – a $10 fee on round trip tickets, a frequent flyer mile surcharge on each mile ($2.50), loss of some senior, kid and pet discounts, paper ticket fees ($20+).
